I couldn’t get through to any of my Representatives today, so I wrote an email thanking the ones who have already said they are voting against DeVos. As I write this, Senate Democrats are staging an all-night “talkathon,” basically a form of filibustering, to stave off a vote confirming DeVos for SecEd until noon tomorrow. Current rules allow Republicans to overcome any true filibuster, so the purpose isn’t to hold the vote off forever, but to give constituents (READ: YOU) enough time to call your Republican Senators and task them with voting against her. They just need one more. If they don’t get it, Pence breaks the tie, and we’re in trouble.
As far as larger Resistance today, current and former EPA employees signed a protest letter, and held a small formal protest, in opposition to possible EPA pick Scott Pruitt. They are particularly upset about the threatened rollback of regulations across most of the energy industry.
What you need to do: Call your Republican Senators (I recommend using 5Calls) and task them with voting against DeVos. Please, only call YOUR Senator: phone lines are completely tied up right now, and reports from the Hill say a lot of the congestion is due to out-of-state callers. So call YOUR rep, and let them know you will not abide a vote in support of DeVos.
Today’s picture is the list of attacks that POTUS claims did not get enough media attention. Notice that some of these are incredibly well-reported events, including some Pulitzer Prize winners.
Overall a quiet day.
He continued to show his incredibly thin skin today when he called any negative polls “fake news.” He spoke to Central Command (CENTCOM) and Special Operations Command (SOCOM) today in Tampa, promising them the “finest equipment known to man” and claiming that the media was not reporting on terrorist attacks. He didn’t elaborate as to what he was talking about, or who wasn’t reporting it.
