Today’s Resistance: While we continue to mitigate the daily damage POTUS is causing, it is important to look ahead to the future, specifically the 2018 elections. With that in mind, FiveThiryEight has a great way to track who in Congress is joining us in Resisting by tracking their “Trump Score.” This is the number of times the person has voted in favor of/supported POTUS’ position divided by the total number of bills relating to his position. For example, Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has a 100% score, meaning she has voted in favor of POTUS’ position 100% of the time (this includes confirming his cabinet picks, etc.).
Folks are resisting in numbers unseen since Vietnam, and it’s time for our Representatives to catch up; holding them accountable has never been more important.
POTUS Today: It was a big today of dismantling our democracy for POTUS. First, he signed an executive order targeting businesses that required two regulations to be cut for every new one created. He then blamed computer glitches and “fake tears” for this weekend’s airport protests over the illegal detentions and deportations. He vowed to dismantle the Dodd-Frank regulations, passed in 2010 to prevent another financial crisis, which he called a disaster. He fired the acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, who refused to defend his illegal immigration order, and believed it was illegal.
However, the most important and terrifying thing revealed today was that Senior staffers on the House Judiciary Committee helped POTUS’ top aides draft the illegal executive order curbing immigration, but party leadership was not informed. They also worked under non-disclosure agreements. This is a severe breach of the separation of powers. This is scary.
The one piece of good: The freeze on EPA grants has been temporarily lifted.
